Topic: APM support for SMP Linux installs?

Hi, I knew there's a trouble with APM vs. SMP in that there's no safe way to shutdown system properly (i.e. sharply synchronizing both CPUs). I also read some explanation about that once, but don't remember where . Older Red Hat releases installed only single-CPU kernel at start, so you could ...

I found this post about a trouble like yours. It could be either a matter of setting your IDE Zip 100 drive as noauto in /etc/fstab, or activating automount, or both.

As far as I experienced, RH9 does quite well with HPT366 hard disks.
I've two of them as /dev/hde and /dev/hdg, and they both are working fine (as they were seen during install, of course).

BP6 on with no keyboard & mouse, may it work?

Hi, I decided to switch to a new PC using Abit IC7 , but I mean to keep my older BP6-based one as it works fine. My project is to keep them both up and running and networked by Ethernet (cross cable). They'll both run Linux only (get rid of Windows at last :!:). Both PCs are in a tower case: I...

Sorry. Using the RU BIOS revision, in regard to the issues with the HPT366 controller. I have been using SP3 since it came out with either HPT366 driver revision, 1.25.0.1 or 1.25.0.2. Using RU . Thanks for your answer. BTW, I've already upgraded both to SP3, and further on to SP4 recently, with no...

I installed RH 9, too, but couldn't use it enough to test it intensively as I'd like. Hope I'll be able to in the next weeks. Installation went fine; all of the devices I could try were up and running (I didn't test my USB scanner, so I don't know whether it works again). The only thing is, Gnome is...

Hello, I made all my checks and tests, and that's what came out. The good news is, using USB port fixes the problem; it works fine and mouse led turns off as PC does. The bad news is, I checked my BIOS configuration, and observed these settings: ACPI Function is Disabled Power Management is Disable ...

I'm using RU BIOS version, and as far as I can remember, I disabled all Wake up on xxx settings, but I'll have a look at it this evening when I'm back home from work. BTW, if it can help, I found an interesting thread on this issue here . It's about different optical mouse types and different mother...

Logitech Optical mouse

Hello guys, I bought a new Pilot Wheel Mouse Optical to replace my older Pilot one. This new mouse has an USB connector, but I used the alleged USB-to-PS2 adaptor; hadn't even to reinstall software (it's the same for both). Now I've got this problem: when I turn off my PC, the mouse led stays lit; a...

First, Lindows started claiming it would be the first real Windows/Linux hybrid; now we know they've quite abandoned Windows compatibility (they just couldn't make it work). Even in best cases, Lindows Win-compatibility is not better than "Linux+Wine" one. Second, Lindows 3.0 is being charged $ 129:...

As for other Linux distributions, I use Red Hat , and it works fine in SMP mode (you just need to re-compile your kernel, but most recent RH versions set up SMP kernel already at installation time ). SMP mode is quite performing on BP6, even more than in Windows (at least that's what I experie...

Please have a look at this.
It seems Lindows doesn't support SMP at the moment (nor is it clear if it'll be in the future...).

Bye.

Hi, BIOS upgrading is very well explained in ABIT BP6 User Manual (Appendix A); if you don't have one, you can download it here . I followed those instructions and everything went OK (you can only fear a power interruption while doing it :!:). If you use an up-to-date awdflash version, you're likely...

As for your OS, bear in mind Windows 98SE does not support SMP. You'd better upgrade to Windows NT or 2000 (even Windows XP would do, but I don't really suggest you to use it ).

I know BeOS is fine: I had a look at BeOS 5 PE sometimes ago.
I'm keeping an eye on OpenBEOS in order to see how it grows... I'm likely to recover an 8.4 GB Quantum hard disk for free, so that would be an interesting way to use it .

As for the former question, if you want to check whether Win2K "sees" both Celerons, you have just to open your Task Manager: you should find two separate CPU graphs in its Performance tab. As for the latter one, I'm not very practical of benchmarking, but I know there are lots of them (Sisoft Sandr...

I quite agree with HAL: WinXP has so many " better not use it! " features and bugs that ... you'd better not use it :!: For best results, use Win 2K Pro and/or Linux (the latter should be winner's choice for SMP, too, even if I admit you could get into a bit of a trouble in having all your stuff wor...
