I check for that every 4-6 months on all my boards. No sign of leakage or puffed cases. That doesn't guarantee that they're working fine; the only way to check for sure is to pull them all off and test each one individually, which is not something I'm keen on doing.

I've not had any issues over the years with a single P3 in my BP6. That it's a revision .40 board may have something to do with it, as the only required mod to the power system was replacement of the 100uF cap at EC10 with a 1500uF part. After that, the jumper wire from AN15 to N33, and the powerlea...

If you pulled a PCI card while the machine was running you're best throwing it in the garbage. Perhaps your other cards, chips, and processors are undamaged, but most likely all the major components have been thoroughly fried. Test each part individually in a known-working machine to see what did an...

Powerleap S370 question

Quick question: taking a P3-850 home with me along with a slot-1 adaptor to see if one of my parents' computers will take an upgrade. Just realized that I could also potentially use the S370 adaptor to test out another machine as well. Only problem is that the S370 has the trace on the back cut to w...

The award bios 1.0a thing is not the right number to look at - that's just the string identifying the manufacturer revision of the bios chip and menu system. No matter what version of the bp6 bios you use it will alway say the same thing. The abit bios microcode updates a different code on the POST ...

Win2k is NT 5.0, XP is 5.1 or 5.2. Yeah, they really did charge you a lot more for a point release. As for your problem, don't futz with the ACPI or MPS values in the bios and then expect windows to boot again happily. NT derivative OSes use a HAL (hardware abstraction layer) to provide an interface...

Sure it's not detecting half the 256MB stick and the full amount of the 128MB stick? Try the 256 stick alone; if it sees half, the stick is your problem and you need to get low density/non-double sided memory. 256MB sticks from crucuial have worked good for me so far. If the board sees the full 256,...

The clearing step after the flash is not required. It's a good idea, though. In your case just hit F1, then get into the bios and change your settings to what you need. The error you got is typical and not dangerous, it just means the bios wants you to take a look at the CPU settings.

Any new card will increase your performance because of the T&L engines onboard, but then your processor still won't be able to keep the card fed. GF4MX's have a pretty bad rep when it comes to performance; most people shoot for Ti4200s if they want to go Nvidia's way. I personally prefer radeons, an...

Supposedly the entire GF line is 1.5-capable due to the 4x compatibility. You might need to dig up the specs on the Nvidia reference card it's a copy of, as specific info on that particular card is lacking. Either way I hope you don't want to do much 3D work/gaming with it, as it's an ancient part, ...

I'd pull out the goofy processor and reflash the bios with RU final; there shouldn't be any real changes, but you never know. Perhaps one of the ones with the newer HPT code might be a good idea. Either way, flash the sucker with a single CPU, making damn sure none of the "cache bios" options are ch...

Intels are multiplier locked, so if you want 1100mhz, you need the 133 bus. If this is unatainable (and it's very hard to make it that high with the bp6), then you'll be running at 8.5 x FSB speed, meaning worst case you run at 100mhz FSB giving you dual 850s. The bp6 has the necessary divider to kn...

What happens if you fire it up with no disks or floppies attached? If you get the OS not found error, your issue is software, if it's still chillin on the DMI pool, it's hardware or bios.

Do an inspection on your caps to make sure there aren't any leaks or blown caps. While you're in there reset the CMOS with the reset jumper or pulling the battery.
