InactiveX - Hi - yes, point taken; am also using a couple of BIOS' w/ the HPT microcode removed - but did it myself. Firmware hacking has far too big a downside IMHO to entrust to someone you don't know. As it happens, I can't see what if any difference beyond boot-time it makes having or not having...

Shard - Hi - you need the RU BIOS for W2K/XP to install/work properly [USB won't work otherwise]. IMO safer to use an official Abit RU rather than some hacked thing - you don't need the PIII microcode. There's an Abit beta RU w/ HPT 128 here: ftp://ftp.mathematik.uni-marburg.de/pub/mirror/abit/beta/...

Derek - Hi - bought a couple of knackered old BP6' off Ebay for fun, having wanted one for many years - but having [sigh :)] to struggle on w/ dual PII's/PIII's/Athlons/Bartons & etc & etc . . . . this thing isn't strictly the 'main' system; but in fact is having to fill in while I await an Iwill DK...

. . . as an even more sobering reality-check, here's the performance of a dual Barton at 2.25 Ghz . . . .

WPCRSET-optimised as above, a reliable & fairly memory-sensitive benchmark [ScienceMarkMP v1.0] sees around 1.5% improvement overall for this BP6 at 550.

- as a reality-check, this optimised 'score' is just about exactly 2/3 the performance of a uniprocessor Athlon 1200/DDR 2100 platform:

wbxtune - why bother?

As we all know; the i440BX remains a remarkably efficient chipset - the attached image shows a BP6 at 100MHz FSB compared with various SMP PIII setups/chipsets, most at 133FSB. SSSandra 'scores' are of course only meaningful as comparisons using the same version: the version used here is: 2004.10.9....

Hi - A couple of hours' fiddling suggests that tho' it's just about possible to get wbxtune to work in XP, it a) gives the wrong settings, b) is not stable using the ver 2.30 driver, & c) WPCRSET is simpler & more effective

RRLedford - Hi - you might like to check the forums at 2cpu.com: I've had dual Barton '2500's' at 15x 150 stable at 1.70vcore on an Iwill MPX2 [this is trivial & achieved by most everyone w/ that board CPU combo]: had them up to 13.5x 167 but this a bit much for all but a few PCI cards.

Hi - assume you're running the ACPI multi kernel: I couldn't get the thing stable without disabling ACPI & using the MPS multi kernel. Am using 3x SCSI-hosts which may have something to do with it. Mind you . . . symptoms sound like the vid-accelerator from here . . . time to try another & see what ...

overclocker@voz - Hi - do you mean you've edited the SIDE_RAID66 BIOS to have the 'right' device ID#'s? . . . & which drivers are you using?

Compaq [Adaptec & flashed to the 39160 firmware] 396D - a dual channel U3W 64/66 thing; & an ICP-Vortex GDT7523RN - 'nother dual-channel 64-bit U3W; but this time a RAID-host & 33MHz.

To my fury; neither of the 64/66 RAID-hosts I'd intended to switch over for the time being will work in this mobo.

. . . fun :) - I've wanted one of these mobos for years.

- but [sigh] I've now plugged in a couple of SCSI-hosts, disabled the HPT, & gone back to being old & sad . . .

headseed - Hi - I believe Xbitlabs tested the Abit 'HotRod66' [HPT366/8] against the then-equivalent Promise controller a year or so back if you want to search out figures; as you have no doubt read above, I've only run a pair of old & mismatched HD's [mirrored] so don't exactly see the point of ben...

kuun - Hi - no feat at all: many folk have done this with onboard HPT366' [including, obviously, the author of the hacked BIOS]. I'm running at the 'usual' 5.5 x 100 dual - at default vcore. Serious air-cooling [kanie hedgehogs]; ample PSU. I suspect the drivers available for d/l here are not the sa...

bpsix - Hi - well; it [the Japanese RU BIOS with the Iwill SIDE-RAID66 BIOS & drivers linked to above] worked OK for me on a rev 1.0 BP6; but I wouldn't recommend it. The SIDE-RAID66 HPT368 BIOS is competent enough [made a mirror in about ten minutes]; but the drivers [under Win XP Pro SP1] are pret...
