Highpoint says that the HPT366 controller should only be used for harddisks not for CD/DVD etc. Try the CD-Rom on IDE 1/2 (it's fast enough).

The HPT366 problem can be caused by using a windows driver with a different version than the HPT-BIOS version - try to use the same version.

Yes - most standard Athlon coolers are to big, some milling had to be done.
But they were extremely cheap (3 € each) so it was worth doing it.

@purrkur: really nice (haven't read that thread before)

Don't take Adaptec IDE-RAID controllers. The price is high (i960) but the read performance is really weak (with RAID 0 and 128 MB cache).
But I have not tested RAID 1 - maybe then the performance is ok.

CPU fans off (standard heat sinks), Sisoft Sandra burn in test (CPU arithmetic & CPU multi media) for ~ 10 min. at 100% load Now i have adapted bigger Athlon heat sinks, they can handle passive cooling when not overclocked and with a additional case fan, but i have set the CPU fans to min 25% thrott...

2x433@520 512 MB, GF2 MX400, 32 MB Quake3 - 1024x768 ~ 75 fps have not tried Far Cry or HL2 on it - i think its useless (DirectX 9 hardware support is essential for the new 3D shooters) Far Cry needs at least a 2 GHz CPU and a GF FX-5600 with 128 MB to run at 50 fps or more. When i find a inexpensiv...

When i tried different voltages during overclocking i figured out this: C433 at 1.75 V and FSB 80 was running stable at temperatures below 35°C reaching 40°C the system stopped working. Tried 1.75 V and FSB 66 it worked fine up to 50°C When i increased the voltage to 1.85 V at FSB 80 the CPU's could...

Attach the drive on ata33 controller during installation.
After complete installing the hpt366 drivers (check for the right version!) you can put the drive to the hpt366 controller and set the BIOS boot option to EXT-SCSI.

you can't be sure I only have built RAID's with harddrives of the same model, and sometimes it's a good idea to buy 5 drives if you need 4 to have a replacement part with exactly the same specification to avoid problems like incompatibility in your case (and when all drives are still ok) you should ...

let me guess: you are using two two years old drives and two new ones? is it the same model? do they all support UDMA133? is the transfer rate the same? test each single drive on the UDMA33 port, if it can be partitoned and formatted (one after the other) when all drives are ok, it can be a timing p...

If you want to boot from HPT366 you must also use the BIOS option EXT-SCSI.

You need a fast harddisk for a router, i think this is done in memory and there is no need for a fast harddisk.

If you want to build a file server, disk speed is an issue.

I know it's a late answer - but: I had the same probs: HPT366 + Maxtor DiamondMax 8 Plus (40 Gig) Using W2k and some old HPT drivers: transfer rates above 50 MB/s Using XP and the actual HPT driver version 1.30: 12 MB/s (the UDMA 33 controller was quite faster) Solution: A visit on the HPT homepage ...
