Im pretty sure if you can get it going the BP6FSB utility(or some other FSB variation) might be benificial to you. Yeah, or I might just leave it. The box will either end up as a "server" with the Celeron, or a workstation (with a P3). In either case, lowering noise will be important and as we all ...

I had a few minutes to spare yesterday (VERY unusual these days) so I hooked up the motherboard to a screen, CD-ROM player, power supply, mouse and keyboard to see if this board wants to play nice. It booted up just fine and in a few minutes I had Knoppix up and running without a hitch. Getting the ...

OK, I've done it. I took my Gateway based Adaptec 2940UW and placed it in the second PCI slot below the AGP slot. My BP6 boots up just fine. Just to let you know, I have nothing attached to the SCSI card at all. I just put it in, booted and checked if the machine runs. It runs just fine. I even chec...

One more thing, this 2940 is OEM version from Dell computer and doesn't have BIOS, maybe bp6 is looking for this non-existing bios? No, the BP6 doesn't know if the adapter has a BIOS or not (not all SCSI adapters do). I do have a AHA-2940 UW myself that came from a Gateway machine. Maybe I should d...

My first three thoughts were (1)heat, (2) overclocking and (3)it is an older ATi graphics adapter. I had one of those some time ago (I think it was called Rage 128) and I it seemed as if Ati never managed to make proper drivers for it. Poor rendering was always cropping up in various games. I eventu...

Gentoo rocks! I've been running Gentoo from a stage 1 install on a Pentium 200 for a couple years! Talk about a long install time ;). That being said, it was just a fileserver/home gateway, i.e. no x-windows. So post install performance wasn't that big of a deal. Hehehe! I agree, if you got the tim...

I'm going to be installing Gentoo Linux on it over the weekend. Given that Gentoo builds most of itself from source, that should be a good judge of the procs ability. I am a Gentoo user myself but I haven't bothered with the BP6 and Gentoo because it would take too long :) However, Debian runs nice...

Thanks for the feedback. The sweet thing about the motherboard is the size and that it can run 66/100/133 MHz FSB's. I am pretty sure that it won't have any overclocking ability as it is probably designed by Intel for Fujitsu-Siemens as an OEM board. Those are always stripped of options in BIOS. In ...

700MHz Celeron II

I just bought myself a motherboard based on th 815 chipset from Intel with built in sound and graphics. The board is a micro ATX size with 3 PCI and 1 AGP port (despite the built in graphics) and I would say that the quality of it is impressive. It is a pull from a Fujitsu-Siemens computer. Along wi...

We got a few around here running SCSI drives in their BP6's. Don't know where they are atm and I don't know what adapters the are running. I am however surprised to see that the 2940 isn't working. Anyways, could it be an IRQ issue? Have you tried disabling IDE's alltogether, as well as serial/paral...

BIOS doesn't measure the speed. It goes by a pre-programmed table. It won't reflect your actual speed so it can be safely ignored just like Dave Rave so correctly pointed out.

That depends on the size of the transistors used in the chip along with the manufacturing technology used. The chip could indeed be very hot at 33MHz.

More bad caps

I had my friends server over at my house for a health check. He told me that his machine was highly unstable and would either lock up or not boot correctly anymore. I have checked out the machine. I think Tim got the same ones I got. It may explain why his board started acting up again (he switched the 10V ones for the 6.3V ones). I decided to go buy new 10V ones instead. I have just completed my third BP6 cap-swapping. This third board is a bit strange in that it looked like new when I got it (i.e. caps all look new and none are visibly broken) but it was definitely unstable. It would lock up randomly every now and then even when I wasn't loading the system. This sy...
