Please forgive me if I put this in the wrong forum, just was not sure as to where to put a "general" question about OS'S.
Is there any advantage (stability wise) in running 2000 Server version over 2000 Pro?

jaybird

DPMS causing problems, how do I correct?
Since my last format & reload I have been having problems with DPMS mode. I will be working along in or on a graphics intensive program, cpu's at or over 75%, minimum ram usage (say, 120meg max, 1gig available) and with no warning, I'm in either DPMS off or standby and I can't reactivate (black scre...

my question, dual PIII's on BP6, enough to handle MythTV?
Ok, I'm looking for some practical use for my new toy(gotta justify it to my wife before she lets me complete it  )). All I presently need to complete this box is a large HDD (OBTW, what is the biggest HDD the BP6 can "see"?), a video card and a case. I know nothing about MythTV other than it ...

Well, I'v read on this site that certain FSB speeds, while over-clocking can cause data corruption or, even worse, physical damage to the drive itself? Can this happen on the HighPoint controller (which, believe it or not, I have NEVER had any problems with!)? I have never run into this problem myse...

What are the FSB speed(s) that may damage IDE hard drives when over-clocking?

Based on your information you need to goto "Yoichiro's" site, that's where I got my information. You need a LM317T regulator (in stock at most Radio Shack's, about $2.99 USD) and don't forget the required capacitor per Yoichiro's site that goes with the regulator mod, worked for me :D ! OBTW, IMHO the BX chip set ALWAYS benefits from some form of active cooling, if you don't believe me, put your finger on the BX heat sink when you have two 366's at full load at 100 mhz fsb for several minutes. You will gain "wisdom" on the tip of your finger in a hurry  Definition of "wisdom...

Sorry about the "slang" term "slug". The term "slug" referes to the top raised bronze colored portion of the CPU. Most Celerons are not flat in this area and because of this they are not able to efficently transfer heat to the heat sink mounted on top of the "slug" or raised portion of the CPU. Quit...

SL35S or SL35C?
More important than the "S" codes, are the slugs flat? (lapped?)are you using a good heat sink compound? (Arctic Silver?) are your heat sinks adequate? (like the GlobalWIN FEP-32?) and most important, are you doing active cooling on the BX chipset? With all the above I has running both an SL35S and ...

badcaps.net
Has anybody here delt with "badcaps.net"? Looks like one heck of a website, visually very "neat" work, says he dosen't advertise, says he dosen't need to and gives very detailed advise to those that want to do it themselves even to how to determine if you should do it your self, sells cap kits, etc....

Well, I've solved some of my problems! Number 1, the sound went away because my daughter (26, knows everything, dad doesn't know a thing) accidently deleated my sound drivers  ! question about USB, converters and optical drives
I'v determined that I have to much "stuff" going on on the PCI bus and its' affecting my ability to do high rez video capture (above 640 X 480) so I decided to remove several devices and there cards from the IDE bus. I bought several (4) IDE to USB 1 & 2 "converters' (plugs into the the IDE cable po...

I've lost my sound and can't get it back!
I have been using a Chaintek AV710 for about six months with no problems. Last night I booted up my PC (dual PIII's, 1 gig ram, Chaintek AV710, PNY FX5500 dual monitor, multiple optical drives, 2 HDD, one for dual OS'S, one for video capture, WIN2K Pro, SP4) and no sound! I have a DTT2500 that the A...

hard drive continues intermittent running
Just noticed hard drive light "flickers" at set intervals in a set pattern. This happens about every 5 to 10 seconds. Checked task manager (win2k pro) and there is 0 to 1% CPU usage (dual PIII system) and about 87 to 92 meg of memory in use (1 gig available) and only 17 services running, the only on...

Yeah, my first pair of 366's were not even the same stepping (but both MALAY)and they went 550 to 594 air-cooled and 605 w/pelts! :D However, they were lapped as was the BX and I had a mini-pelt on the BX. Thanks for the up-date, I had forgotten how to check how far apart they are! Oh well, age will...
