POST displays incorrect proc. MHz values
Hi,
I'm overclocking my BP6 with dual 500MHz cel. Upon post, it only displays certain resultant frequencies as follows:
7.5 mult. @ 66 fsb POST displays 500 (ok)
7.5 mult. @ 72 fsb POST displays 533 (ok)
7.5 mult. @ 75 fsb POST displays 563 (ok)
7.5 mult. @ 78 fsb POST displays 550 (should be ~585)
7.5 mult. @ 80 fsb POST displays 600 (ok)
7.5 mult. @ 82 fsb POST displays 600 (should be ~615)
7.5 mult. @ 84 fsb POST displays 600 (should be ~630)
7.5 mult. @ 85 fsb POST displays 600 (should be ~637)
7.5 mult. @ 86 fsb POST displays 600 (should be ~645)
7.5 mult. @ 87 fsb POST displays 650 (ok)
7.5 mult. @ 88 fsb POST displays 650 (should be ~660)
7.5 mult. @ 89 fsb POST displays 650 (should be ~667)
7.5 mult. @ 90 fsb POST displays 650 (should be ~675)
7.5 mult. @ 91 fsb POST displays 650 (should be ~682)

What's the deal with that? I'm running the latest BIOS from the download page, but I was also on an earlier BIOS rev. that did the same thing.

It's a BIOS display thing. wouldn't worry about it.
MBM will show the 'correct' speed in windows.
plus, you will be hard to get a useable stable system much past 78 FSB without serious cooling.

that might be the power suplly...but just up the voltage!!! i'm curious to see which speed will boot?! post the results...
if you don't feel like installing an OS right away, or maybe don't have the hard drive ready yet to do so, why don't you see if it will boot Knoppix or some other flavor of live linux? Then you may know if it is somewhat stable.
If you use bittorrent and have a relatively fast connection, you can download the whole .ISO in under an hour.

I've been running Gentoo from a stage 1 install on a Pentium 200 for a couple years! Talk about a long install time. That being said, it was just a fileserver/home gateway, i.e. no x-windows. So post install performance wasn't that big of a deal.
Anyway, if you like Gentoo and you would like something similar without the compile then try out Arch Linux (www.archlinux.org). Not as big but a very helpful and enthusiastic community and a great distro with a good, own-built package manager.
