Hello there, and welcome!

I'm a musician too, and although I hate using SoundBlasters for audio stuff, I have found that the Creative drivers do not work well will SMP computers, such as the BP6. They cause exactly the symptoms you describe.

Use the drivers that come with whatever version of Windows you are using. Don't install Creative's own drivers. You may have to reinstall Windows to get around this.

BTW, what Windows version are you using?

Then why the hell not? It's great!

Here is an interesting approach. That guy has bound all drivers to one cpu. Worked for him, he says.
BP6, RU BIOS, XP SP3, ACPI, 2x366@523(1,95V), Pentalpha HS + 1x 12cm fan @5V, 768MB, Powercolor Geforce 3, RTL8139D NIC, Terratec EWS64L, Samsung M40 80GB (2,5''), LiteOn CDRW

If you *really* want to do decent audio recording, abandon Creative altogether, and get a professional audio card.

Try http://www.audiotrak.net/prodigy71.htm or http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/Mia/index.php if you're on a budget.

Otherwise, http://www.digidesign.com/

Whatever you do, make sure your interface supports E-WDM audio drivers and Steinberg ASIO, for low latency.

Thanks kuun:)

Another one for I. K. Artur: I have had massive problems with clocks and pops on my own audio box (crappy ASRock K7VM2 (VIA KM266, should have gone for intel)), TBred B 1800+, Hoontech/ST Audio DSP 24 Value, Cubase SX, Propellerheads Reason 2.5

These problems were caused by ACPI. Switching Windows XP from ACPI to non-ACPI made it possible to run tracks with massive use of VST instruments and effects even with my old Duron 650. Before that they could hardly be played with clicks and pops with the TBred 1800+ (1533).

But beware: At least you´ll have to reinstall all devices if you change to a non-ACPI-HAL.

I'd suggest you use the KX project drivers for SB Live and Audigy cards under windows XP/2k - creative can't write drivers.
Regards,
John

Thanks johnli, I'd never heard of the kX Project. :)

Found this site: http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/index.php?skip=1
kXProject wrote:12/04/2003 - Version 5.10.0.3536 (BETA) released.
Refer to Changelog for details.
This version (as well as 3535) might be not 100% compatible with SMP/HyperThreading machines.
