Guys...
I have one question: has any of you tried resoldering a different crystakl into the mobo - the one with a higher frequency?
and then another: how would the mobo behave with the a faster crystal - meaning how would PCI dividers behave....
any tips?
I mean the base frequency generator eg. 14.xxxxxxMhz
One crazy Idea more... :)

LOL crystals, we use programmable clock generators now
you could change the base crystal but that would be inefficent, if you really want to, you can just tweak the inputs on the generator. it's there to make your life easier.
you can hack the board by running the traces back to the synth and then disconnect it and add another synth to it to generate an independent frequency for it so you would disable the dividers all together and adjust the clocks seperately, but that's way more work than I would want to do
but you're welcomed to try

yea, back from the dead

Hey! where could I learn how to do that? I am novice to soldering and electronics, but that's my perfect goal to be exact
ever since I saw those turbo-PLLs that japanese were using... eh...
Holodeck, maybe you have an exact idea how to do it?

I think you could start at home....
get any old motherboard.
make a few satisfying holes with a screwdriver.....
so that if the soldering doesn't work, you can't be disappointed.
then practice away, and say, 'does this look like a 5 year olds work or a precision robotic assembly line machine did this' ?
if you like what you see, try a real board. don't say you weren't warned

I'm studying computer engineering (Computer Science and Electrical Engineering) so I get access to all the good equiptment
Pick up some books on basic electronics and experiment then move onto digital circuits then you'll hit the fun stuff

hahaha... I understand it is not easy and it IS`precision work, but I saw japanese do it at home, so I just need to want to know some guide and practice before I do that, if I do.
I do not need you irony, thank you...
especially about the screwdriver... hohoho...
