uptime

Post by Dave Rave »

http://en.uptime-project.net

has decided to pull the plug
due to rising costs and running servers etc

bummer

how much does a server cost to run, in a year, for 20,000 users updating a few bits i'd say every hour ?
would 20,000 users at $1 a year each cover costs ?

All good things must come to an end, right?

NOT!

Sure does take a pretty chunk of change to keep servers online though.

well, yes
that's why they're shutting

but 20,000 users at a small price / per / year
how much is a small chunk of change

and it's also all the graphics pulled back for signatures in web forums

would 1-3 accounts free
4 or more a small price cover costs ?
they were getting sponsor ship and advertising space too

It's possible that they just lost interest. It takes a lot of effort to keep a site going strong.
