Via C3 Nehemiah is (or will be?) SMP / Dual capable!

Post by Wolfram »

...at least this German article says so (google translation at the bottom, sorry I´m too lazy) http://www.winhelpline.info/news/index. ... ws&id=6529

...though here http://www.via.com.tw/en/viac3/c3.jsp they only speak of smp support in future versions.

I´m going to ask the German site about that...

Recently the taiwanesische chip producer presented his new CPU generation via com C3 with Nehemiah core. The enterprise placed new integrated features of the x86-kompatiblen of processor like the PAD LOCK coding engine with integrated hardware random number generator or the CoolStream architecture mentioned, which is to make possible small current consumption and thus small heat development even during high achievement demand, into the foreground. However hardly attention was given to a substantial point: the new C3 is dualable. Thus the field of the dual CPU systems opens for the first time via cost-conscious users, particularly since also the more favorable Socket 370 is used. With employment of optimized applications dual CPU systems are clearly more efficient than single CPU systems with the double MHz number of the individual dual CPUs. The slower processors are more favorable in the production and use less river, which makes smaller demands against cooling and power packs. Via a maximum power input of 11,25 Watts promises with a GHz for the new C3-Version, which lets cooled and thus very quiet systems appear possible even passively. However the L2-Cache failed in 0,13 Micron process of manufactured computing core with 64KB rather small. For Multimedia applications recommends chip set, which has a Mpeg2-Hardware-Decoder via according to a combination with the internal Apollo CLE266. The present market price for a C3-cpu (933 MHz, 133 MHz FSB) with older core is loud geizhals.at with approximately 68 euro, dual Motherboards for Socket-370-CPUs is starting from approximately 108 euro final consumer price to be had. Official information to the new C3-Kern is under http://www.via.com.tw/en/viac3/c3.jsp callably (PSE)

Damn... Winhelpline confirmed the SMP support, but I still doubt it, since the official press release
http://www.via.com.tw/en/Digital%20Libr ... hemiah.jsp
doesn´t mention it.

And I found an older article that hints that there might be two versions of the Nehemiah, one with and one without smp support: http://www.hardtecs4u.com/reviews/2001/ ... index2.php

But the really bad news for me is that the Nehemiah requires Tualatin-compatible mainboards, so the BP6 (without adaptor) is not an option :(

Sorry for shaking you up guys!
