Hard disk light permanently on?

Post by nharris1 »

A newly installed transformer and XP fell over!? :( Bios picks up all periferals, drives, etc. Evenually tried to reload XP, then 2000, then 98 each one would get as far as booting widows install screen and fall over. Noticed the hard drive light is now permanently on (cables on correctly). Maybe a motherboard problem? Any suggestions?

An Antec True Blue ATX power supply. Looked great but...
I've put the old one back in hoping this might cure the problem but no luck.

Yes, tried that. Got a DOS prompt from a bootable partition but still no success with loading an MSwindows OS. Using the original RU bios with HTP 1.22 but was running RU with the HTP 1.25 when disaster struck.

I'll give it a try.

If no luck it'll be out with the board & apply a test meter. If I'm lucky a soldering iron replacement fix.

Thanks.

Yeah, that's a good point. There may be a short somewhere along the cable to the case LED.

No soldering, system back & up:) A full reload though :( The hard disk light is still on during the bios boot but goes off after the operating system kicks in. New (or replacement) cables is a good idea and as the two hard disks were in second hand removable racks I've bought new Lian Li mobile racks.
