High system temp

Post by Oxydius »

I always found my system temp to be quite high when using 2 CPUs. Now after 8 hours of 100% CPU beating both 366@550 only reach 41 Celcius degrees but the system reaches 55 Celcius. Why is that, and is it excesive?

I've put thermal paste under the BX greenie and dropped a 40x20mm fan over it with spacers to allow good airflow. It might not be doing a great contact since the white pins seem to be loose... air coming from the small fan is cooler than from the CPU.

Any ideas?

Hello there, Oxydius. :D

That sounds OK for 100% load.

It's a common misconception that the system temp is taken from the "greenie". The sensor is in fact located by the groups of 4 capacitors, between the CPUs and AGP slot, and is labelled RT3.

BTW, adding more cooling to the greenie is always a good idea. Having two CPUs puts more strain on the venerable BX northbridge chip, so it gets hotter than on most BX based boards.
