533MHz Celerons and heat
Hi everybody,
I bought myself 2 533MHz CPU's the other day and replaced the 400MHz Celerons that were previously in the system.
My 400MHz Celerons were overclocked to 466MHz and when the computer was idle I was seeing around 41-42 degrees C on the cpu's. Both had an Intel heatsink and fan.
I have now replaced the CPU's with the 533MHz ones and just installed the old Intel heatsink and fan from the 400MHz Celerons on them. I am actually getting a lower heat rating on them when idle, at around 39-41 degrees C.
Past Friday I was running the machine as an ET server where one CPU was seeing about 70-80% constant action. The heat of the CPU's increased to about 53-55 deg C!! The only overclock I got on the CPU's at this time is the "turbo" option in BIOS which gives me about 544MHz speed for the two of them.
I plan on buying new heatsink/fan for my processors but what I would like some feedback on is what the temperature difference should be between idle and full load for these Celerons. Anyone?

Thanks for the input guys. I still wonder how much a decent pair of coolers will change that delta (idle vs full throttle). Getting a difference of 15 degrees is quite a lot, especially considering the fact that summer is coming and I am in no doubt that it will be HOT! However, water cooling is out of the question for me at the moment!
Btw, does anybody know if anybody ever measured the size of heatsink that could be fitted on the two processors without any issues? I have looked a bit at the forums here and seen different coolers that people recommend. Unfortunately, most of them don't sell here in Sweden. It would be great to just take a ruler, asking for a few coolers that I want to look at and measure them! I also want them to be quiet so I would really like getting heat sinks with mounted 80x80 mm fans. I guess going for something built for the Athlons is recommended. My biggest wish would be to get something from Arctic Cooling: http://www.arctic-cooling.com/en/

I used evercool full copper heatsinks with 7cm fans. at 366@550MHz in summer here where ambient is like 38-40C, I was not getting to 50C.

In order to reach the exact cooling that your CPU needs, 3 speeds can be selected via a switch. This switch has been attached to a metal bracket and can be installed in any PCI slot. Further an additional control can still be installed. In this case the three fan speed selections mark only the maximum rotation speed."
I would love to fix that switch to the front of the case so I can regulate the speed from there (since the computer is sitting in a box). It would be great being able to get those blowers going full speed when the need is there!

it won't fit, unless you would cut the sides yourself

BCN: I thought the absolute majority of heatsinks just had a copper core. I haven't found any that are full copper that could fit the BP6.
Another question: Could a heatsink shaped like this fit on the BP6?

Dave Rave: Thanks for the pics! Those dual jets were a blast! It is sort of a shame to have all that eye candy locked up in a box
The pic showing the BP6 without coolers was a good one and gives me a good idea what to look for. I guess it is possible to have two 80x80 mm fans without them touching each other if I find the right heatsinks that allow for the caps to stay the way they want.

on mine i use TITAN cooler...i tkink the product is D5TB or sthg like that...it fits on board, and has 80x80mm fan on it...which i switched for Coolermaster TC fan!
pactically noisless for me...but i don't know what to fit on motherboard chipset, 'cause if it get more than 45deg it stops responding!!! and the system freezes...
btw, some nice tweek from sisoft sandra...in BIOS enable the SPREAD SPECTRUM, either on 0,25% or 0.5%...it will get the stability on the board, especially on dual CPU systems!
