Try changing Delay IDE Initial in the BIOS. I'm thinking that your HDD is just taking a little longer than usual to spin up properly.

The HPT366 controller is a nightmare waiting to happen as you go from Win9x to Win2K/XP. I have suffered thru this transition on all (3) of my BP6 systems over the last year. By the time I was on the third BP6, I had wised up to the point of knowing that the $25 Promise/Maxtor ATA100 controller would save me a lot of grief.
Even if you do get the HPT366 to work, depending on how many other PCI slots you are using or some other quirky system issue, the HPT366 will spontaneously make the drive unbootable, or trash it completely. I will only run READ-ONLY devices from the HPT366 now - CD/DVDROM.
