Mandrake 9.2, Apache, and my missing hair.......

Post by Slagathor »

Ok, I changed the document root in my httpd2.conf to /home/slagathor/www/ so I can access the folder and make changes from my XPee machine.
I did this before a long time ago and it worked fine but this time I keep getting a permission denied error.
I figure it is something simple, and I will feel st00pid when it is finally figured out.

Anyone got any ideas?????????

Shouldn't you be editing httpd.conf? (Rather than httpd2.conf?)

You could try changing the permisions for the directory you want to use.
Maybe something like 755, but not 777.

I look'd for the httpd.conf and couldn't find it, all I see is the httpd2.conf.
It is looking in the dir I have in the conf but it wont let anything be served from there.....
I also changed the permissions for the dir. but that was to no avail also.

SOmething else I found interesting, from the konsol, I tryed netconf, and it reported "command not found", both as regular user and as root.
I remember I got it working a few times before, but I am baffled as to why I cant get it going this time..........

I am still open to suggestions......:D:D

Sounds like you could use some help. Although i haven't posted it yet i will be have a How-To on http://www.linuxloader.com that will cover building a web server. The file you want to edit is /etc/httpd/conf/vhost/Vhost.conf thats for 9.0, 9.1, 9.2 . Its the virtual hosts config file for apache. If you read that file it will explain how to set it up. Setting up "name virtual hosting" or "ip address virtual hosting" wil determine how you edit the config file. I use webmin for 99% of this as its faster and not as prone to my typing errors.
