Just some guesses...
Are you overclocking? This could be the problem. Also, some people can't seem to get the HPT to work unless they set the FSB to 75Mhz. Try not overclocking and try 75Mhz.
Make sure your BIOS is the same one as your friend's.
Make sure all your CMOS settings are the same as your friends. (ACPI, etc.)
Before you disconnect The hdd from your friend's computer, remove all hardware except the HPT366 in the device manager...
XP Pro, HPT366, WD450AA; XP does not boot with HDD at HPT366
Forget the floppy & get yourself an LS-120 SuperDisk IDE drive. It will work as a 1.4M floppy or as a 120MB drive A:
It will boot your BP6 4-5 times faster with a floppy disk.
As for your WinXP boot problem, just try doing a reinstall over what's there on your system, assuming the registration issue can be handled OK.
Can you get the CD-Rom to boot, if the CMOS is set correctly?

Try the 1.22, then 1.23, and the 1.25 (for win2k). I bet one of them works...

Hello,
I've tryed Win2k and WinXP, but neither boot from HPT366.
I manage to coplete the install (from CD) but when I restart - Comes out an Error (someting like missing *.dll from the Win)
But if I put the HDD to the normal IDE, everything works perfet.
When I'm in Win I can use HPT366 without any problems.
DO YOU KNOW WHAT CAN I DO TO boot Win from HPT366???
