Windows Geniune Advantage

Post by Derek »

So what do you guys think about WGA? Some people are suggesting it's just as bad as spyware! Tools are being released by hackers to remove WGA software.

What's your take?

hackers .... phht

the idea that i've been duped by someone into buying a dud copy of a key is a good reason to use WGA
they give you a real key, you tell 'em where you found the key
where's the spyware ?

Some people are equating it to Sony's "root kit".

The argument is WGA should only be installed on pirated systems, and not all systems.

how can thay tell if its a pirate copy or not unless thay install some sort of software to check its validity, unfortunatly thats where your argument falls apart

i can understand the fustration of users not wanting anything installed on there systems apart from the apps that thay use

but i think that the wga is a sensible way for microsoft to check for pirates

and to my knowledge there are no root kit variations in the wga , all it checks is the xp key against a huge database of registered keys sold thru legitmate means.

if you really dont want to pay for a key get a friend in a computer shop to give you an oem key ... although this is not legal unless thay actualy sell you some parts at the same time..

hope this helps

Playing Devil's Advocate here: It could check the key, and if it finds a valid one, it uninstalls itself.

well i run 3compters at home...all pirate versions & all with WGA crack...

i think Microsoft should have stayed with the old WGA, like with the SP2...it's pointless to try getting rid of pirates...but you can count the pirate versions with WindowsUpdate!!

And what about the guy that MS has problems with because a pirate already used his key? How does MS know which is the pirated and which is the purchased copy.

BTW, I got about a dozen stickers from systems that were bought with XP installed but as soon as they were set up they were fdisked and linux installed. So, are these keys pirated or ligit?
There are *almost* no bad BP6s. There are mostly bad caps.

No BP6s remaining

they should be light...question is did those keys ever logged on WindowsUpdate page?!

but even it they did...i think you can say it's a new computer with old WinXP...it should work, but keep in mind to install WinXP with one key on one computer!!

i have never paid for any version of windows i have ever used..

but i have paid for a CD with linux on it..

how's that logic for ya?

why would i pay some asshole that wants to dominate the PC world with his software.. that is the most unsecure, holey, exploitable software on the planet?

and let alone $200

psshhh

i don't want microsofts stupid updates anyways... 99% of their updates have caused me headaches..

piss on microsoft..

if it's made by man.. it can be broken by man..

it only takes time
