I can´t remember if one cpu could be disabled in the BIOS, would have to reboot... you can choose the MPS version reported to the OS, but I think you can´t disable SMP.

Don´t know what your OS would say with one CPU (virtually) gone, i.e.: Would your installed HAL/kernel still work with one CPU? Or would Windows try to install a non-smp kernel?

Why do you want to disable one cpu, artyr? Benchmarks?

why would you want to disable one?

then why buy a dual cpu mobo if you don't have the hardware that will work with it?

i've never had any problems with my dual cpu setup... and it's had several different harddrives in it ranging from 2GB to 60GB

That is very odd. Windows 98 should have no problems at all with two CPUs (it'll just ignore the second one).

Have you tried reinstalling 98?

Disable one CPU for Win98

Post by ckw_888 »

My BP6 dual boots Win98 and XP without problem. It is no need to disable the CPU.

Use Win98 SE. It will work with the first CPU and ignores the second. Works fine for years on my system

Use highpoint to switch the Bootdisk.
