Not bad for a $85 Chip

Post by uallas5 »

Been meaning to post this for a while, just hadn't gotten around to it. Built myself a new machine and figured I'd start a new SETI account to see how it would do. This screen shot was after the 1st full recorded 10 days back in Oct. The 1st day was recorded as "NEW" with no units and not the +200 or so that the system gained in the group.

The system is:

AMD XP 2500+(Barton Core) O/C'd to 3200+ (2.205 Ghz, DDR400)
512MB OCZ PC3200 Performance Series, Cas Latency: 2-3-3 6T
Soltek SL-NV400-L64 nForce2 Mobo
Win2K3 Server (stripped/altered for workstation use)

The CPU runs on stock cooling right now no prob, but I just got an OCZ Gladiator3 hsf for it.

51 C, according to the hardware monitor. The new OCZ hsf should knock that down and push up the bling factor having a red/blue fan

I had to rebuild a friends 1800 xp cos the cpu wouldn't post
turns out it was th emotherboard

we got a new GByte and a new 2400 xp
so he bought the ThermalTake Subzero4G peltier kit too
mbm indicates 41 degrees in high summer in a non-air-conditioned room
the thermal block is real warm, so i guess the peltier is working

Wow that thing really keeps up with my P4 2.4Ghz @ 2.4Ghz Have you tried any other OS's running seti? I am using XP w/ sp1a and I get 9-10 wu's a day if I let it run 24/7. When I keep it cold enough and crank it up to 3.2Ghz I get around 14-15 per day.

Derek,
the Barton's are are mulitplier Unlocked, so don't bother with the L1 bridges on your new chip.

Kuun,
Room's fairly warm, probably 75 to 80 F. We haven't had the heat on since the last snow but other people around us must because it's been really warm lately. When the room was cooler the CPU temp was around 48 C. What chip are you using?

Hal,
No, I haven't tried my any other OS's with this build, I decided to go totally new. New board, chip, ram, HDD (80GB WD w/8mb cache), fairly new case, and the new Windows for the OS.
The rest of my machines running seti are either win2k or xp, I've gotten rid of the 98's at work. One of the most "efficient" seti machines I ever had was running NT4.

Well, I changed the hsf to my new one and also changed the window case fan so it's blowing in instead of out. The temps dropped to 38-39 C under full load!

OCZ Gladiator3. It's a solid copper base w/ copper fins and a very bling tri-color LED fan. I got it for $16 but the site doesn't list it anymore. NewEgg.com has it for $17 or $18 w/free shipping.

yuppers. The case is an X-Dreamer, got it from http://www.Xoxide.com. In addition to the window and top blow hole fans, I particularly liked the drive doors, 1 floppy and 2 CD, which come with the case in it's matching color. You don't see it, but the front has a glowing blue readout panel which shows the internal case temp. It also has a flip up front panel that hides USB and audio hookups.
