Check these out!

Mother of all CPU charts:

Part 1: http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20041220/index.html

Part 2: http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20041221/index.html

In part 1 there is mention and a picture of the BP6 :)

This is pretty interesting. I was checking out the performance differences between a 500MHz Mendochino Celeron and a 600 MHz Pentium III Coppermine processor running at 100MHz fsb. Both are running on a BX motherboard.

First test where they released figures was an encoding process of a videofilm from DVD to DivX. For the Celeron the process took 23 mins, 25 secs while the P3 took only 11:33. The second video encoding test (from DVD to Xvid) took the Celeron 20:14 while the P3 completed the test in 14:34.

In a CPU intensive rendering task (using 3D Studio Max 6.0) the Celeron did better. It took 13:30 to do a certain task while the P3 took 9:34.

Encoding from DV to WMV using Windows Media Encoder 9 took 22:34 for the Celeron while the P3 took 14:40. Similar test using Main Concept Video Encoder to translate DV to MPEG-2 took the Celeron 21:05 while the P3 managed in 13:46.

There are more benchmarks there, all pretty similar to the above, as well as the regular memory/cpu benchmarks like SiSoft Sandra that don't really translate well into real life every day usage. I knew that there was a difference in performance between the Celeron and P3 but I never realised that it was so large.
