HELP needed ## Replacing burnt coil ##

Post by emilg »

Hi !

I have got a Bp6 with stability problems. It suffers from capacitor leakage and a burnt coil.

I can find lots of info about replacing the caps - shouldnt be a problem but an anyone tell me how to replace the coil ?
What kind of coil should I put there ? Specs ?
I am talking about the coil that sits close to the CPU pretty close to the incomming power connector from powersupply.

ok..

to replace a coil....

you see how it's wound?

count the winds... find a non conductive very small (or hell use the old core part) and wind a piece of copper the same amount of times.. viola ya got a new coil for replacing

You need to use the same wire gauge.

That will probably be magnet wire by the way. It has a very thin non conductive coating on it. Since you will only need a small amount you might be able to get it for free from a shop that rewinds motors.

Unless you know how to guage wire you may have to take it to them to get the right stuff.

The core that wire is wound on is made of ferrite. Its job is to block high frequncy noise. Using the old core is the best thing to do. Using a plastic or air core would not be the best idea as it would make the coil basicly useless for the job it does.

Wire

Post by erik006 »

The magnet wire is sold at radioshack, they sell a package of three different gauges (i think it's something like 22,24,26) and you have to use the middle one. (Also check out my thread in general discussion)

The cores are ferrite, you can probably buy those at your local electronics supply store as well.
