Dual PIII's Without NEOs
Posted by The DareDevil @ 12:36PM PDT
Thanks to Anton (AKA: vAmPiR), a BP6 Motherboard is running 2 850E Coppermines! Not to mention they’re running at a 124FSB for a combined processing power of 1054MHz without a hitch! According to Anton a 133FSB will be no problem at all! He was kind enough to send us some eye candy (Note: These pictures were taken while at a 110MHz FSB):

  • E-Mail from Anton:

    “Hi,
I am sending you some screenshots that show the performance of my modded BP6. I'm sending them because the guide is not quite ready. The first screen shows the task manager showing the 2 cpus, some SiSoft Sandra screens and a running Nintendo 64 emulator. The second screen shows more SiSoft information modules. My plans are to release the guide at the end of this week.

    Cheers,
    Anton”

Here’s a snip from the forum:

“Well, since I modded the Vtt voltage regulator to recieve it's input from the 5V line, the CPUs are feeded from the 5V and the graphics card is sucking the 3.3V line. I'm sure if one CPU is stable at 124MHz FSB dual CPUs should also be stable. I'll try to find another power supply tomorrow. Btw the fact that I got 110MHz FSB completely stable without upping CPU core voltage and staying at 3.5V chipset voltage makes me think I'm on the right way. Yoichiro was hardly able to get dual CPUs stable at this speed using the NEOs but he upped the CPU core voltage to 2.0V and feeded the BX chipset with 3.7V!
If anybody is interested in benchmarks - the board scored 4997MIPS/2503MFLOPS in Sandra 2001 CPU test, 10197 Integer/12501 Floating point in the Multimedia Test and 642 Int/650 Float in the Memory Test (much higher than the VP6 Dual 1GHz memory test - the old BX chipset still overperforms the VIA chipset here).”
