Geforce 4 MX440 modification
Posted by DJ_Spray @ 10:46AM PDT
For those who have bought a Geforce 4 and are experiencing problems at boot (cold boot), here is the solution provided by Leadtek on there new Geforce 4 MX440. They just added a resistor on the board.
After this modification, no more cold boot error, and this has been verified on several boards. As this is a NVidia Reference board, I presume this can be done on any other manufacturer's. Enjoy. DJ Spray.

Use an ISA soundcard instead of a PCI.
Have tryed this on two computers. And both works fine, with MX440 without any modification.

well, I think that if just a Resistor can fix it, that's even more easy, and we don't touch the mobo....

Doing the AGP mod to both the A and B side of the AGP socket fixed this problem for me. Also did 5v mod while I was there.

My girlfriend roughly translated the text (she couldn't understand some of the technical stuff).
It basically says that the MX440 had problems of intermitant or total non booting. Leadtek recognised this and, as a makeshift fix, they added the resistor shown to the design (instead of a re-design) which seems to have solved the problem.
It then says that none of the other manufactures (Abit, PNY, Etc.) have addressed this problem but as this is a Nvidia reference card design it should work on all makes.
It would be interesting to hear results of home user mods like this and if it also works on the MX460 cards?
