GTA Vice City: Playable, to my surprise, with the Radeon 9000. In 1024x768x32. Was unplayable with my old Matrox G400. Now it's in the 20fps ballpark, but acceptable for me, I mean, I would actually play it with that computer if I had no faster machine. The box boasts a 800 MHz (PIII or Athlon!) min...

There is a theory from some guy around the web who says only Samsung drives shut down properly on the BP6. I posted a link to it here on the board, will search for it later. Personally I had trouble with three different Seagate drives on the HPT366, no probs with a WD 20GB, Fujitsu 40GB, Samsung 120...

Re: SMP help!!!
I've owned my BP6 since 98 and I've not once gotten a game like Quake3 or Alice to work with turning SMP on via "r_smp 1" soo as I turn it on the game freezes on start. I did however get Castle Wolfenstienn to load up to those rendered flags with the intro in SMP once but it quickly locked. There i...

You need to start QuakeIII in realtime for it to SMP properly. In your QuakeIII folder, make a new txt document and paste in: start /realtime /max quake3.exe +set r_smp 1 Then rename the txt file to quake3.bat, and run it. I always forget this. Thanks for reminding me :) I've never noticed any diff...

Some time ago I ordered two Titan TTC-D5TB coolers for my BP6, which had a similar shape (6x6cm at the bottom, 8x8cm at the top). IIRC they were too large and touched the capacitors. So it's nice to hear that there are still fans available that fit. Are you running these fans @12V and they're still ...

Quake was the game that really got me addicted to computer gaming. I had played computer games since the days of Pong, but 3D was the thing for me because I'm not really interested in playing games, but I love being in a completely different world. Especially when it's full of horrors! I played Quak...

Also, if your two heatsinks are the same size then you could remove the small fans on top of them and install a single, 80x80mm fan on top of both of them. Just saw this old post... this is exactly what I did on my dual Athlon setzp (MSI K7D). I put a single 12cm fan (@7V ) on top of the t...

I know Billl's feelings concerning Linux users. Especially "experienced beginners". They remind me of some fellow students I met when I was studying law. You start studying that and you know nothing (of this strange view of things). Six months later, you know a little more than nothing. But these gu...

CPU fans off (standard heat sinks), Sisoft Sandra burn in test (CPU arithmetic & CPU multi media) for ~ 10 min. at 100% load Now i have adapted bigger Athlon heat sinks, they can handle passive cooling when not overclocked and with a additional case fan, but i have set the CPU fans to min 25% throt...

Far Cry runs on my BP6 / Radeon 9000 combo. Singleplayer is in the 15fps ballpark (low settings, of course), multiplayer (monkeybay) as well.
Half-Life 2 loads only the menu level, at ~5 fps. Crashes when I try to start a regular game (visual c++ error).
Doom3 crashes on startup (unknown exception).

So true! You can never trust these figures unless they release specifications on how they actually do their testing. chances are that the companies are using testing methods that serve their purposes best. I do remember though that AMD has said that their dual core setup would not dissipate more th...

jakfr02, be sure to check if speedfan will actually turn the fans on again. IIRC you can set a "voltage profile" for each fan (or was that bp6fsb)? Often fans need a slightly higher voltage when they start and a little less to keep spinning. I tried passive cooling on my Celerons and it didn't work....

Also, there are differences between dual cpu machines. Consider the fact that a dual cpu machine that has dedicated memory banks will have performane advantages over motherboards not having that at all (like the BP6). similarly, if the dual cores don't have dedicated cache's then you will have a di...

The issue that surprised me the most was that your dual Athlon isn't pulling more djuice! Tell me something, are you just using regular XP's and not MP's in that motherboard? Regular XPs. Now two T-Bred A's, and this mixed TBred A/B setup before. I also would have bet the dual Athlon was the power-...
