Alrighty, jumping right in with both feet. Beosmax will be down in about 25 minutes, got the generic boot disk for promise, but this one has no active mirrors. I'll keep checking to see if its back up, in the meantime, this is my plan: Rename the beosmax iso as per their instructions. Create boot fl...

I thought BeOSMax only was for P4s and Athlons. If I can use it on the bp6 I will. I have a drive I can use on the bp6 onboard IDE if that will ease installation. The beosmax cd creation instructions say you have to have a boot image to burn the cd, they only provide P4 and athlon boot images. Any i...

Off topic sorry (still looking for replies on BeOS queries). Well, put gf3 in main machine and installed windows. Wile installing drivers, etc, the machine corrupted screen and then locked, then tried to reboot, infinite loop.... gah! time to dig out my old ECS K7S5A board and say goodby to my overc...

some BeOS noob questions
New to BeOS, want to run it on my bp6, should I go for the BeosMAX, openBeos, yellowtag, or something else? Also, is there a voltage monitoring app for BeOS? My bp6 sometimes reboots with vcore reset to default, and the cpus won't run the overclock I have at 2.0 volts, it still boots, but is unstabl...

hyperspace is correct, the celeron 2 will not do smp, and you will need a neo s370 adapter to run one of them. If anyone wants to try it out on their bp6, I have a celeron 2 566 and a neo adapter for sale. The celeron would run at 918Mhz, but I kept it at 850 most of the time just to keep the pci bu...

I've heard good things about the honey bios for k7s5a. I run cheapoman's bios for mine tho. Keep in mind that overclocking is still difficult on this board because there is no vcore adjustment. I never put my unlocked chip in to test, but I don't believe there's a multiplier adjustment either. that ...

Well, I wish I hadn't done that. After following all the instructions and flashing the newest Bios, win xp wouldn't boot. I also noticed that the problem of not restarting was also still present. No biggie, I figure I'll try safe mode... no go, stalls 1/2 way through at the agp.sys file. Again, no b...

Thanks Derek, I will try this later today, I want to make sure the machine is booting consistently at 2.1v before I play with the new linux kernel, its supposed to just love smp. The last bios flash I did was to remove the hpt bios and also display the BP6 boot graphic. I did it manually, with no sw...

BP6 doesn't always post after a reset or restart, vcore low
I don't know if these are related, but my BP6 doesn't always post again after a restart in XP or when saving and exiting bios settings. A power cycle fixes this. However, 9 times out of ten when I do this the system does post, but sets the vcore at 2.0 even though it is set at 2.1 in bios. All the o...

I found out that there is alot of settings for Day of Defeat to make it more playable on older hardware. You can go in terminal and disable rubble/schrapnal from grenades, weather effects, shells ejecting from weapon, etc. I haven't tried yet becasue I am happy playing on my 2.2gig athlon 1700/GF4ti...

Not a thread crap, but anything higher than a geforce 2 is probably overkill for a bp6. I tried to play a little Day of Defeat on my dual 552 Geforce 3 ti200, and Even at 800x600x16bit it was all but unplayable. Granted I was on a server with 32 peeps, but I can't paly a first person shooter with fr...

Even though you have the pci bus speed close to 33.33MHz, I would wager that the overclock is the problem. Can you boot a memtest86 3.0 cd and let it run all tests on all memory for a day or so? How about the newest prime95 on torture test, set cpu affinity and run two instances set to blended tests...

From what I've been reading, all that is required to enable the MP mode on any but the very newest athlons/durons is to connect one bridge on the processor packaging. I believe it is the L5 bridge. Then just make sure to get a dual mobo that supports some overclocking options, fsb, voltage, and mult...

I have heard that the performance of the HPT366 on the bp6 is bad even when it works. Have you run any benchmarks that we could compare with someone running the controller in regular HPT366 fashion? Thanks. I gave up and got a promise TX2 ATA100 controller, I think it was $15 shipped, not too bad. N...

If money is no object, then seriously buy another motherboard and cpus of your choice. Not to dis the bp6, but the mods necessary to run dual p3s are more trouble than they are worth, and even if you do it right, it still might not work for reasons out of your control. At least this is the gist I ge...
