unstability when overclocking

Post by kuun »

ok,

i have dual 500mhz @562 atm

when i bump them up to 600MHZ@2.1vcore... randomly i get bsods from several different types of files...

it ran great for awhile until i started playing a new game one day... the first day it played great... but when i went to play it the next day it would randomly lock up, reboot, or bsod

so... wtf do i do besides downclock?

if i up the vcore to 2.2v the mouse it jerky and barely works

Look into your cooling - check for dust on the heatsinks and fans and if the heatsinks are still seated properly.

it doesnt get hot

it gets to 113F/114F per CPU max

occasionally the BX chipset will hit 116F but will drop back down to 114F within minutes

Also, look at the the voltage High/Low range over time (with MBM). This might show that voltage drift is a problem. I just lost one of my (3) BP6 systems to bad Caps I'm sure. A P-III/1100E 384MB.

I was getting BSOD clusters about every 2-3 weeks - then stable for a while. Tried boosting the voltage to 1.80 then 1.85V
This helped for a while, but the CPU caps were clearly buldging. Finally last week - no boot, no way, no how! Just lockups lockups lockups - even early in the BIOS load, or in the setup screens.

Well, I've started to rebuild the system with a $40 (EBay) ACORP Dual 370 RAID board. Finally figured out how to OC that board to 110MHz FSB & will start to shop for the 2ND P-III/1100E soon. Looking to go with striped 120GB/8MB cache IDE array & an dedicated small UltraSCSI drive for a swap file. Big negative on the ACORP is the 512MB max RAM.

the temperature is very wishy washyt, one minute it'll be 109F and the next it'll be 113F

so you never know

Have you noticed your VTT voltage range? Could you tell us what that is doing?
