Hi,
i got my BP6 running with two cellys 533, but WinXP Pro only shows one CPU.
What do i have to do? The Boards works fine and the CPUs are ok. Any ideas?
thx,
markus
WinXP only "sees" one CPU on BP6

when it's booting, make sure it shows two cpus on the post screen.
on the PCI list mem show post screen, there will be two lots of 128mb memory under cpu cache
XP Pro or Home ? Home is good for one cpu
did you have two cpus when you installed XP ?
or add it in later ?
where are you looking that it only shows one cpu ?
device manager should show
Computer - ACPI Multiprocessor
maybe the other non ACPI multiprocessor

Hi,
hm, when i check the booting screen, sometimes its 2 cpu, sometimes only one...AARGH, is my BP6 dead?
I installed XP Pro as "Standard PC" by pressing F5 during install beginning. May this be the problem? I see only one CPU in devicemanager or taskmanager (there should be 2 different diagrams, one for each CPU).
any ideas?
thx

if you installed when it booted as only one cpu, it's gonna be a uniprocessor
r u overclocking ?
too little voltage will often show one cpu not present.
if not, plain 533 celeron, at least 1.85v.
if it's iffy, use 1.90v
what does computer type show in device manager ?
my friends notebook shows
Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC under XP Home notebook
my dual HT Xeon shows
ACPI Multiprocessor PC under XP Pro

Hey,
i reinstalled the system. without pressing F5 this time. Now there are 2 CPUs. Dunno what the problem was.
BUT: When running the MultiMedia benchmark with Sandra Lite 2005 it shows only one FPU (1xFPU). Comparing with an Dual P3 500 (4xFPU???) the BP6 Combo scores VERY low (1400 vs 7000 I think).
Is this, because the BP6 only emulates DUAl CPU? Will I gain perfomance after all in this combo? Cause i want to run a gameserver.
thx

I don't have Sandra specifics in my head but I am sure that Sandra activates stuff like SSE which you have in the P3 but not in the Cellies. You also have a 100 or 133MHz FSB on the P3 but only 66 on the BP6 which has been shown to be a performance killer if your BP6 is doing more than just raw CPU intensive stuff.marqus wrote:Hey,

The BP6 is a real dual CPU but it has some limitations and can definitely be considered the poor mans dual cpu motherboard. I would say that your software isn't reporting things correctly, and I am positive that your dual 500MHz P3 does not have 4 FPU's (although that might be emulated as well ).
As for using the machine as a gameserver, I would advise against it. All games use only a single CPU so running it as a game server would be practically like using it like a single CPU machine. The Celerons weren't cut out for that kind of action.
