Post by hyperspace »

This is an interesting development at Intel.

Multi-Core processors with up to 4 MB of L2 cache running at 40°C!

w00t finally, after 4 years on the drawing board

just think, two of those chips on the board, so a total of 4 physical processors and then add HT. 8 processors w00t
bah just a pipe dream :(
yea, back from the dead

If it ain't broken, mod it until it is

it just tells that they cannot crank up the speed as easily as before and not getting into 70-80C range... PressHot I mean :D

SMP is good of course, but only when programs and OS support it and USE it.

i wonder how long it will take someone to try mod a BP6 to handle these cpus?
There are *almost* no bad BP6s. There are mostly bad caps.

No BP6s remaining

lol
BP6 toooo old some new server board will come out for it... hopefully

BCN, all modern OSes support SMP and you don't necessory need all programs to be SMP compatable, you can just run different strings on each CPU so each string gets more cpu time

Yeah, I know that, but anyway, would be nice not putting strings :)

of course Intel will probably marry it to some new ram technology and require yet another power supply. They only want the "well finianced" to be able to afford their newest flagship processor you know.
