CPU Voltages Differ?
Just looking through my mbm5 high low page... and the cpu voltages differ by 0.1 Volts!!!
In Bios
CPUS are 366s @ 75mhz => 412mhz. Voltage stock 2V.
CPU 1: 2.03 average...... 2.06 high, 2.02 low.
CPU 2: 1.49 average...... 1.54 high, 1.47 low.
What is going on here?.....
For a good year or so I haven't been able to run 92mhz bus (1/3 divider) stable.. so I clocked it back and stopped worrying about it.
Any recommended tests or mods?
Powersupply is a 400W thing which is pretty good.
Running 1.1 board, with 2200uF cap

ok.. just been reading more. And thanks for your speedy reply
both cpus have gorbs on them.. with old paste... 39 and 42 C respectively.
CPU 2 fan spins some 300rpm slower as well...
North bridge as bluorb on it, again with quite old paste now... silver paste I believe on all.
Side of case is off, and it's hell dirty.. so I'm going to clean it out in a few minutes.

make sure they fans aren't making weird noises, if they are then they probility need to be oiled and probility a little dusty
The VTT swing problem

Cool.
Ok.. I took the mobo out, cleaned it all out with compressed air.
Cleaned out the fans too, and they spin a good 200rpm more now.
One of the fans is definitely a bit noisy.. I think that If I take the sticker off their snout, then i should be able to drop some oil in.
My first post was not very clear.. so good work on interpreting that.
Oh.. and temps now are 33 and 35 C. so that's gone down a bit with some new paste and fan cleanout.
I'll try oiling the fans... and go from there. Might try clocking back up again.

Re: CPU Voltages Differ?
By default, MBM 5.x shows the VTT for CPU 2. Not sure how to make it read the true Vcore 2 voltage. MBM 4.18 will shows the correct Vcore voltages.Karl_Skewes wrote:

artic silver - only paste to use
use some good 25WT silicone oil, thick enough to stick and thin enough not to build up friction
don't spray wd40, that's the worst thing you can use, it's mostly keresone with very little lube. Good for a flame thrower and fixing that squeeky hindge, bad for fans and motors
if you decide to get extreme, you can always try lapping the slug and orbs to get that last fraction of a degree of cooling out
yeah and MBM is kinda messed up

Cool.. thanks guys.
It seems stable at 92mhz bus at the moment.. it's been running all night on various tasks...
CPU's hit 36 and 39... so that's cool.
Got the case off at the moment, but I want to put it back on, so i've got some car stereo bendy straps, so I'll put a fan up by the cdrw and hook the other one up again, might use some real estate sign to run a duct from the fans back to the cpus.
Had mouse lockups, but did the mouse lockup thing with IRQ 12 -> ISA. And disabled ACPI, and loaded RV without HPT, then cleared cmos.
All caps are good.
Yeah MBM is a bit funny, but I renamed all the sensors.. and the voltages mirror each other in CMOS so I guess that's not a worry.
I've got some bones brigade skateboard bearing oil which is very thin but works great which I've used before with success. I'll try get round to that tonight.
Oh.. and when I bought this computer, I selected this motherboard for 3 computers for my dads work.. so I think I'll start replacing them with something else and will p3 and agp mod one of them...

Karl_Skewes,
looks like you are making headway on cleaning.
try drop your cpu voltage to 1.8 or 1.9 in the bios. If the cpus are ok they will probably be stable lower then 2.0. You didnt mention the system temp in relation to cpucores. mine is always 1-5degrees higher then the cpus. had bad caps and before replacing them the system was 20degrees higher.
hyperspace,
maybe it would be ok to post MBM4.18 as an available dl on the site. looks like several of us may prefer having both cpucores.
holodeck2,
some good info on the oil. i usually go through the hassel of trying to find another fan in my collection then get frustrated and go the the store the next day to buy another one for $10 and usually get $48 of junk i dont need by the time i leave.

There are *almost* no bad BP6s. There are mostly bad caps.
No BP6s remaining

Another possible reason for differing temps is if the temp sensing diodes under the sockets are at differing heights... one is touching the back of the cpu and the other just misses it by a hair. I guess you can carefully bend them up, but be extra careful not to break it off.
Dual Barton Mobile 1.8ghz
Venice 3000+ @ 2.6ghz
lots of BP6s and two VP6s all apart currently
