The Blu-ray Disc Association plans to modify the minimum specifications that Blu-ray disc players are required to meet. Some were worried that the altered specs would make current players obsolete once the new players hit the market this October. Luckily, that is not the case.
According the PCWorld, "[the new] specifications only expand on the capabilities already present in existing players."

Since the battle between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray technology is ongoing, it looks like we will have to settle and buy both types media to get the best of both worlds!
