Unmodified question

Postby dkaiark » Thu Mar 13, 2003 10:59 pm

okay , I ve looked through the posts but can't find specific answers so can anyone help me.

I have 2 * 366 Celerons running stable at 550 Mhz in win 98 . Now I know they are not running in SMP, but will when I move to Win XP pro in a couple of days.

My question is what processors can i buy that will increase my performance , without modifying the board or the processors, and still run in SMP.

Can these processors be overclocked?

Thanks

I think your best performance will come from the 366's overclocked, if you do not want to do modifications.

I agree Hyper! Install high grade heatsinks and overclock those babies!

dkaiark, I disagree with the Dual Cele 366 OC=>550+ being the best.
Having upgraded (3) of these to Single P-III/1100E, my sense was that the single P-III CPU OC=>1.21GHz @110FSB, ran WinXP-Pro better.
Now, there may be situations where the Dual CPUs give some advantages, but frankly, I wasn't observing these.
Not easy to get a P-III 1100E anymore though!

I don't consider a NEO370 adapter to be a mod, do you?
I'm talking single CPU P-III/1100E - the only one listed on EBay todayjust sold for ~$125 a few minutes ago.
All (3) of my BP6 systems ran the Single P-III/1100E un-modded.
One recently died from the bad capacitors around CPU socket problem.

thanks for the input.

If I was to upgrade my mb (i know sacrilege) are there any reasonably priced cpu's out there that are SMP and are quicker than the P3 1100's ?

Just can't get hold of those damned p3's

Dual mb recommendations?

I got two new ACORP 6A815EPD Dual CPU boards in the last few months on EBAY for $40 each. They are FCPGA socket & they can use a $13 adapter to go to FCPGA2 if you like. They have Promise RAID Fastrak-Lite controller integrated. The max RAM is 512MB - decent. The FSB goes to 133MHz & can OC beyond. One is running with a P-III/1100E from my dead BP6 now. I have the adapters to put a pair of Tualatin P-III/512K CPUs on the 2ND of these - but, I'm having trouble finding a good deal on EBay for the two matched CPUs. I'm shooting for P-III/1.266/512K/133 and hope to OC them to 1.43GHz using PC150 RAM.
The RAID IDE may be awhile before I test how much it helps boost performance. I'll b e posting my progress.
