Explorer.exe What The F##K??????

Post by Freak »

Has anyone else experienced this problem with there installation of Win2K3. After some intense hard drive usage A.K.A flicking through folders, all of a sudden my CPU usage sky rockets to 100% and just remains there. After some research, found out that it was the explorer.exe. The only why so far around it, is just to end task it and run it again and everything works as normal for a will only to return later. It does not occur during movie watching from hard disk or anything else. Does anyone have this problem??

Latest XP drivers on all hard ware.

I haven't encountered this problem yet, but I'll keep a close watch on the CPU usage. You say it only happens after intense HD activity?

This is a known problem on Wn XP...did you browse some folders with media files (mp3, avi, mpg, etc...) ?

Maybe this can help you in this case....make a reg file with the following content and add it to the registry.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}]
@="Avi Properties Handler"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}\InProcServer32]
@=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,00,74,00,25,\
00,5c,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,73,00,68,00,\
6d,00,65,00,64,00,69,00,61,00,2e,00,64,00,6c,00,6c,00,00,00
"ThreadingModel"="Both"

This is windows XP and 2003 bug of avi file extension. Operating system looks into files when folder was opened. This causes the problem.

Registry hack (found on this topic) fixes the problem.
