Now, no boot with 3Com 3C905C-TX-m
Now, no boot with 3Com 3C905C-TX-m
Hello,
My PC :
BP6
2 x celeron 500 - 66Mhz (1/2) x 7.5 (1/1)
3 x 128Mo PC100
Geforce 1 AGP
and, 3Com 10/100 3C905C TC-M
I have my BP6 since February 2000.
In last spring/summer, I had problems for booting. I unplugged and I replugged (etc., few times) the ATX connector on the MB + few On/off, and the PC boot.
Now, no boot.
I found. With the 3Com, in all PCI slot = no boot. Without the 3Com, the boot it's OK. I have 2 other 3Com (same model), and I have exactly the same problem.
No boot. No fan, no led, no HD ! Nothing, the PC is Off.
With PCI sound/firewire card, no prb, the PC boot.
With ISA 3Com network card, no prv, the PC boot.
Before, that functioned very well. Gradually, that did not function any more.
:'(

well the BP6 (in fact the whole B?6 series of MBO) had an UATA or RAID controller, which in some instances wouldn't work with the PCI cards...i had the similar problem with some PCI USB controler card, but then i bought a different one (ALi USB PCI) and it worked great!!!
so sell the cards, and buy another...i can tell you that with D-Link it would work!!! try it!!!

KliK : Beforce, it was ok. And now (no modification), no.
Hyperspace : Capacitors = Condo ? Witrh the time.. ?.
Yes, my card worked before.
also, check the wattage of your Power suply (in text PSU)...it should be around 300W...maybe the card is bad, and it sucks too much power, and the computer won't start...
also, check BIOS...maybe there is some setting there for network cards and the problem is there...
also, check the network card manual, that you have got with card...or read manulas on internet...maybe there is some troubleshooting there...
cause you definately got a black screen and that must be somthing to do with hardware!!!
Ok.KliK wrote:do you know how to check the capacitors?! just see if the bulge on top or are they all flat on top!!!
they should be flat...
They are flat, all.
I tested in all slot. All slot does'nt share ressources with HPT366, only one.but i think it's sthg with the sharing resources PCI slots with HPT366...or maybe the network cards don't work...have you tried them in other computers?!
So, no "sharing problem".
I have 3 same card. It's impossible all doesn't work.
I will try to test my all card soon on other PC.
Mu "PSU" ( ) is a 300w.KliK wrote:also, check the wattage of your Power suply (in text PSU)...it should be around 300W...maybe the card is bad, and it sucks too much power, and the computer won't start...
Only CM + 2celeron 500 + ram + 3Com (without AGP carg, HD and CD driver) (so = very light PC) = no start
I will try with another PSU.
No, I don't see any option :/also, check BIOS...maybe there is some setting there for network cards and the problem is there...
I did not modify the configuration, so.. :/also, check the network card manual, that you have got with card...or read manulas on internet...maybe there is some troubleshooting there...
Thx
ok, now post us the results when you test them...
and in BIOS, there can be some memory sharing opstions nad DMA config done...so check them to see if they post problems with network card & HPT366...usually is not the ICQ setting, but some other...
that is why i told you to check the manuals of BP6 and network card...maybe you could find there sthg...

I still would suspect the caps. They do not have to be bulged on top to be bad and since you said that this has been getting worse over time, caps or Power Supply are the most obvious.
OBTW,
AGP slot and PCI 1 share an IRQ
PCI 2 does not share with any other slot
PCI 3 shares IRQ 11 with highpoint ATA66 controller, even if disabled!
PCI 4, 5 and ISA 1 share IRQ's!
ISA 2 does not share IRQ
This was all established years ago when IBM layed out basic PC structure.
At that time it was thought that no-one would ever need more than 7 IRQ's! (thank god for win2k and xp!)(I HATE WINDOZ! )
There are only 5 ways to utilize all slots on this board:
1. Find device drivers that "play nice together"(almost impossible)
2. Utilize an OS that generates virtual IRQ's (win2k and xp) and even here
this doesn't always work by itself!
3. Assign IRQ's in the BIOS (again, doesn't always work, driver issues)
4. Figure out which cards to install in a certain order and in which slot.
5. All of the above!
I had to use #5, but I had:
AGP, Matrox 400 vid card, IRQ 9
PCI 1, WinTV GO! capture card, IRQ 9
PCI 3, Adaptec SCSII for scanner, IRQ 11 (plus highpoint ATA66)
PCI 4, SBLive Platinum 5.1, IRQ 10
PCI 5, generic Firewire card, IRQ 10
ISA 1, open
ISA 2, Linksys 10/100 NIC on IRQ3
Even though I was running Win2K Pro, this did not work unless I forced these IRQ's in the BIOS.
Version 1.0 board, Rev 1.0
2, PIII 1100E (1100/256/100/1.75V) CPU's @ 110 FSB (ran 4+ years!)
2, modified NEO370's
EC10 and voltage regulator mods
COMPUSA "Golden Orb" knock-off heatsinks
Mini-Peltier and fan on BX chipset
3, 256meg Corsair PC133 CAS 2 sticks of ram
4 optical drives, 2 on IDE 1, 2 on IDE 2
2 hard drives, 1 20gig ATA66 on IDE 3, 1 60 gig ATA66 on IDE 3
450W P4 and Athalon approved power supply

And, how to test (to know if ..) ?jaybird wrote:I still would suspect the caps. They do not have to be bulged on top to be bad and since you said that this has been getting worse over time, caps or Power Supply are the most obvious.
It's possible to change the condo ?
Thanks, but my PC is empty (juste CG and NIC (3Com)). I know this problem of IRQ, share, etc.. (I make lot of tests in 2000 and 2001).OBTW,
AGP slot and PCI 1 share an IRQ
PCI 2 does not share with any other slot

why don't you get a new card...maybe it would work...
i told you that my system was blank, and would not even show BIOS if you put 2.0 USB PCI controler from VIA, but with ALi it would work and boot...so now you are thinking about it, and the new card cost about 10-15euros, right?
I can tell you that D-Link works on BP6...and guy said that others work on theirs...if D-Link won't work, than it's not the card!!! and you really have probelms...

Look around the base of the caps. Look for dis-coloration, brown or amber fluid, are any of the caps "leaning" insted of straight up and down on the board?
Sometimes you just can't tell. I had a VP6 that was new and still in the box (new-old stock). I bought it off ebay as-is $15 USD. It wouldn't even post!
I took a chance and bought a replacement kit from "Badcaps", replaced all the caps on the board and BAM!!!!, it worked!!!!
Go figure

I will... not today.KliK wrote:why don't you get a new card...maybe it would work...

But before, in same conditions, with the 2.0 USB PCI from VIA was ok ?
For me, before = ok, and now (no change config) = no start (no fan, no HD, etC.. nothing).
I'm sorry, I'm bad in English, so if I don't undertand you .. :/
I already said several times: I have "3" x same network card. So, it's impossible that is my first network Card is HS (but, I will trye in other PC).I can tell you that D-Link works on BP6...and guy said that others work on theirs...if D-Link won't work, than it's not the card!!! and you really have probelms...
I found many websites on "changing condo on motherboard", in my language
